Thomas graduated as Master in Bioscience Engineering: Agriculture from Ghent University in 2012. In 2013, he started his Ph.D. at the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering of Ghent University. The title of the doctoral dissertation is “Rearing of the black soldier fly towards application in piglet feed”. The experiments conducted consisted of a complete nutritional analysis of larvae, in vitro digestibility and gut bacteriology assessments and feeding trials with piglets. Since 2017, Thomas has been working at VIVES University of Applied Sciences (Roeselare, Belgium). The research includes insect rearing, processing and product development (feed and food). The department of agro- and biotechnology of VIVES has a vast network in the agricultural and feed/food sectors.
